New Music : Bra Kevin Beats – Idea

It’s been a long time since I heard from this KID. What could have happened to him after playing lots of shows with his single hit ’3 Headed Beast’. Probably he was chilling. Well he’s back with a new song called IDEA. You all know how Bra Kevin does, his songs are always stories and funny lines. Maybe those stories are stories from his childhood. Check out the song below and you be the judge.

Looks like Eldee has mastered the art of dishing out good songs. This song is way up there with the great songs. Enjoy!!!!

New Music: Bibi-“Black And White” & “Right Out The Box”

Bibi (real name Bibisanmi Sowofote) is a stunning up-and-coming Nigerian R&B singer blessed with truly powerful vocal chords. Strongly influenced by his family’s strong affiliation with the arts – singer/songwriter father; an author-poet mother; a KORA-nominated singer sister and acclaimed flutist brother - it’s no surprise he’s in the music business.

As Bibi prepares to release his forthcoming album “The Takeover”, the soft-voiced singer drops not one but two singles “Black And White” and “Right Out The Box” as an offering to music listeners out there.

While “Black And White” is more of a pop interpretation of a difficult relationship that you want to make work, “Right Out The Box” is more R&B and is somewhat like a touching love letter. I’m already fond of “Right Out The Box”. Enjoy!

Video & Audio: Helen Paul - Gbedu

Nigeria’s entertainment industry has had a fair share of this starlet, Helen Paul; from the little girl’s voice we all loved as Tatafo on the radio all the way to being the co-host of MNet’s “Jara”, Helen Paul has managed to flourish wherever she chooks her hand.

Helen Paul is a multi-talented comedienne, actress, dancer, compere, playwright, on-air personality and now, singer. And, alongside unveiling her new single “Gbedu”, the song’s spanking new video comes along with it, directed by Akin Alabi.

D'banj stars in Kanye West's Cruel Summer, Visits Plumstead Manor Secondary School

D’Banj isn’t letting the Mo’ Hits split affect his stride one bit! He stars in Kanye West‘s directorial debut Cruel Summer with the rest of the G.O.O.D Music artistes Kid Cudi, Big Sean, Pusha T & Teyana Taylor

The movie premiered last night 24th May in Cannes, across 7 screens and D’Banj was there with the GOOD Music crew ( no photograph yet of him), also present at the premiere were Jay Z and Kanye’s new girlfriend (?) Kim Kardashian.

Cruel Summer is a 30 minute short, filmed in Doha, Qatar. Accoring to GQ Editor Logan Hill who tweeted from the Cannes premiere:

Cruel Summer is the story of a Lamborghini car thief who falls for a beautiful blind Arabic girl who’s father will let them marry if he can help her see. So he (Kid Cudi) does using strings that lead her around palace to play music.

Kanye West says it’s a work in progress but it’s wildly stylish, huge booming soundtrack, Vanessa beecroft production design. Immersive fun.

Kanye says he had to get script approval in Qatar. He needed 20 camels, 100 extras, and around 20 Lambos.

His female star (Sarah A., an intern at Doha Film Institute, pictured above) is the star of Cruel Summer.

The film features fashion he designed and pieces by local Arabic designers, shot in 4 days, 3 months start to almost-finish.

Amanda Palmer of Doha Film Inst says Cruel Summer will premiere November 19 as part of festival in Doha.

The @kanyewest Cruel Summer music was all-new (Cudi confirms) and was the best part–big complex production, huge beats.

After attending cannes film festival to support kanye west in premiering his short film 'cruel summer' yesterday May 23, D'banj flew back to london to make a surprise visit to plumstead manor All Girls secondary school. The students were so happy to see him as seen in the video below.

Big things poppin for D’Banj…Movie Star Tings…OOOOShey!

Video: World Premier "HIGH" Starring Eva Alordiah

As promised the Video is here Enjoy!!!

Video: Sledge Feat. Adepiper & Vector – Oga Remix

Sledge dropped “Oga” a while back and it featured Nigerian Super Producer, Cobhams.

Now, he’s back with a remix and he got some exciting features from Vector and Adepiper who gloss up the track and add that extra mmph to the catchy entertaining single. The Kennis Music artist has just dropped it's video.

In my opinion, this song is one of the most original songs out this year as it exudes “Nigeria” and “Hip-Hop” as well as is still packed full with a message. Sledge, Adepiper and Vector definitely made a Gospel Hip-Hop classic with this one.The video was directed by Oluyinka Davids for I Focus Visuals. Enjoy!!!!

Music: Dampte – Eleda (Holy Ghost cover)

Nigerian Born artiste Dampte releases this new single “Eleda” (Holy Ghost- Rick ross cover) where he glorifies his new found style and swag.
The “Wine your tinkolo” star who has been finding it hard to live up to his name, surprises on this track with good word play and un-orthodox style. We are all hoping this would be another track to have him back at the top of his game. The Eleda song with a highly powerful message and line “Ma’je k’esu Wole” depicts material wealth and largese lifestyle, offering prayers of spiritual guidance. A good track from a promising act. Dampte signed to Bugatti Music Group (BMG) has now teamed up with UK based Music Producer Dapsee; who incidentally co-produced some of MP’s hits like “Pasapasa”, “Don’t Dull yourself” and a host of others. Our Guess is we should be expecting major hits from the duo in the future.

Ghanaian Actresses Using Juju ‘Black Magic’ To Sabotage Colleagues & Gain Movie Roles

It may be superstitious and thick to you, but to the many Ghanaian Actresses visiting the shrines of prominent juju men (native doctors), it works wonders and that is the source of their fame, glory and the ‘goodness’ that follow them.
Few months ago, I was kicked out of my chair when I was informed by certain industry persons about the rapid spread of the use of black magic by some Ghanaian Actors (predominantly the women-Actresses).
The shock and the thought of this primitive practice endured with me for days. I could not believe what I was hearing.
Despite how bemused and bewildered I was, I could not let the issue just pass like the wind. I decided to talk to certain industry persons such as Actors, Actresses and movie makers to ascertain the merits which can be accorded to this evil development.
To be frank, I thought it was a joke. I could not bring myself to understand the connection between black magic and getting a movie role or being famous in a struggling movie industry like ours. I guess I was a little too naive to spot how diluted the over saturated industry has gotten.
During my conversations with several industry persons, 3 names were common on the lips of all. From what I deducted from my conversation with these people, it seemed I was the only one who did not know about the use of ‘juju’ by our movie stars especially the women in the Ghanaian movie industry.
Most of the Actors I spoke with could not believe I did not know such a practice existed in the movie industry. A popular A-list actress said to me ‘Chris, are you serious you do not know about this juju thing? I thought you had all the exclusive background info on your desk. This has been going on for years now’.
Another actress who wanted to remain anonymous for fear of being attacked spiritually and physically also mentioned that, she was terrified once at a movie set when they woke up to see evidence of rituals having been performed.
She explained that ‘we went on set the second day and everyone was terrified by what we saw. The Director was called to come and have a look at a black pot with a red cloth, beads, different colours of feathers and kola packed in there’.
Apart from the various Actors who mentioned that they are aware of the rate at which certain Actresses are visiting Shrines, most of the movie makers I delved into this conversation with also hinted that, they have heard of this practice which can be confirmed by certain strange ornaments they occasionally find on their sets.
Is this the way forward for a struggling movie industry like ours? I asked an Award winning Ghanaian Actor the same question and his answer was that ‘soon, these women will be killing themselves, the enmity and jealousy growing within some of these Actresses is beyond imagination. They can do anything to get the other person off their way’.
Have you heard of the use of juju in the Ghanaian movie industry? Is this the way forward? What happened to talent and healthy competition? What happened to genuine hard work, pure heart and education?

New Music : Guru – Akonta Fried Rice

Guru is banking now with his smash hit ‘LAPAZ TOYOTA’ and unlike other musicians, Guru didn’t wait for LAPAZ TOYOTA to fade totally before releasing another one. he just sent me this song called ‘Akonta Fried Rice’. I like the way Guru give titles to his songs. I know he always try to be as funny as he can. Check his latest song and let us know if can be beat his own record he made with Lapaz Toyota. Song production credit goes to Dr. Ray & Cash 2. Enjoy.

Guru – Akonta Fried Rice

Has 9ice Turned To Acting?

He definately has. The Gongo Aso cooner has decided to spread his tentacles and would be featuring in Laide Bakare‘s new flick ‘Jejere’. According to the singer turned actor, the experience was an eye opener for him…
‘ Being the first time on set, I have to act, cry when nothing is actually wrong with me, laugh when nothing is really funny. I also have to depict this character in the presence of others. It is a privilege to be part of ‘Jejere’ and I look forward to the premiere’
The singer takes the lead role in the movie and he will be working with other actors like Emeka Ike, Oby Alex O, Fathia Balogun, Akin Lewis, Ebun Oloyede and the producer herself, Laide Bakare.

New Music: Kwaw Kese – I’m Free Ft Brymo

New Joint from Ghanaian Legend , Kwaw Kese. He features Chocolate city’s brymo on this one. I’m free definitely a tune. Enjoy!!!

Video: Minus 2 Feat. Maytronomy – Omo Adugbo

“Omo Adugbo” dropped sometime last year and undoubtedly turn some heads with its E Kelly production.

And, as Minus 2 also featured the outstanding rising Hip-Hop Star, Maytronomy, on the track; “Omo Adugbo”, though reminiscent of late ’80s and ’90s Hip-Hop, gives us a breathe of fresh air. The video was directed by Korexcalibur.

Music Premiere: Teni – Lion Heart

Teni is a jazz singer and composer who makes what she terms as Afro-Soul. Laced with semblances of the great Sade Adu, the inspiring singer, who performs with her band The Afro-Renaissance or on occasion, Fela Kuti‘s Egypt 80.

With her album “Afrodisiac” on the way, she’s here with her second single “Lion Heart” off this sophomore album effort which is filled with a self-produced sound that transcends genres from jazz and the blues to soul and reggae.

And, reminiscent of and inspired by eclectic influences from Fela Kuti to Marvin Gaye and Bob Marley, “Lion Heart” has a strong and truly timeless message.

Wizkid, Ice Prince, Camp Mulla & Sarkodie Get Nominated For Best International Act – Africa in the 2012 BET Awards

It’s that time of year again. And, as the buzz for the Billboard Music Awards slowly dwindles, the official nominations for the 2012 BET Awards are now in.

Stephen Hill, President of Music Programming and Specials, BET Networks, alongside DJ Khaled, Diggy Simmons, Mindless Behavior, A$AP Rocky, Astro and Melanie Fiona hosted a press conference yesterday May 22nd, 2012 where he made the announcements.

The 2012 BET Awards is slated to air live on July 1st, 2012 from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles at 8 p.m. And, this year’s host is no other than the highest grossing actor of all time, the beloved Samuel L. Jackson. With performances from Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj confirmed and the A-List of celebrities slated to attend, this year’s show is going to be nothing short of a breath-taking star-studded event.

As usual, Africa wasn’t left out of the mix, inherently nor was Nigeria, with the Best International Act – Africa category spawning two cream-of-the-crop Nigerian exports – EME/Konvict Muzik Recording artist, Wizkid and the Chocolate City Hip-Hop star, Ice Prince.

Other African acts in the category include Ghana’s fast-spitting lyrical assassin and Azonto Ambassador, Sarkodie; the inventors of 254Low, Kenya’s Hip-Hop Group, Camp Mulla; the South African Afro-Soul sensation soon to make an US cross-over, Lira; and the Francophone Rapper Extraordinaire, Mali’s Mokobe.

Even though, Nigeria has a good chance of winning this award with our high calibre exports – Wizkid and Ice Prince – nominated, we cannot underestimate the level of the other artists in the category. Will Naija bring it home? We can only wait in tense anticipation to find out, as well as wish all nominees the best of luck.

Other notable feats include Kanye West‘s 7 nominations, Beyonce‘s 6 and Jay-Z‘s five nominations; it seems the Roc Family have it in for BET this year. Also, the “Turn Up The Music” crooner, Chris Brown, who walked away with four awards last year out of his six nominations, is nominated for three against top industry heavy weights like Usher, Trey Songz, Miguel and Bruno Mars.

With so much at stake in each category, the 2012 BET Awards is no doubt going to be a thrilling, suspense-filled event and while we patiently, though anxiously, wait for July to come.
