Tems, Wizkid, Amaarae, Diamond Platnumz, and Focalistic get global recognition at “2021 MTV EMAs”

 

The official MTV EMA Red Carpet is presented by Zalando.

MTV has announced nominations for the “2021 MTV EMAs” with Africa’s biggest acts from Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania and South Africa, securing nominations. Nigerian superstars Wizkid and songstress Tems who both collaborated on the global hit “Essence” were each nominated in the Best African Act category alongside while South African “Ke Star” hitmaker Focalistic as Amapiano's global recognition continues to grow. Ghanaian songstress Amaarae of “SAD GIRLZ LUV MONEY” fame and African superstar Diamond Platnumz of Tanzania have also clinched a nomination in the category. Voting is now open at mtvema.com until Wednesday, November 10 at 22:59 WAT, so fans can cast votes for their favourite African Act beginning today. The “2021 MTV EMAs” will premiere exclusively on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322, GOtv Channel 72) on Sunday, November 14 at 20:00 WAT (Pre-Show) and 21:00 WAT (Main Show).

Nigerian nominee Tems said, “I’m extremely excited to be nominated for the Best African Act at the MTV EMAs. Globally Justin Bieber is the Award's frontrunner securing eight nominations. Bieber’s nods include “Best Artist,” “Best Pop,” two “Best Song” noms for his global hits “Peaches” featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon and “STAY” with The Kid LAROI, “Best Video” for “Peaches,” “Best Collaboration” alongside The Kid LAROI and “Biggest Fans.” Doja Cat and Lil Nas X follow Bieber with six nods each, both across “Best Song,” “Best Video” and “Best Collaboration.” British global superstar Ed Sheeran and EMA newcomers Olivia Rodrigo and The Kid LAROI follow closely with five nominations each, including “Best Pop” and “Best Song” for Sheeran and Rodrigo. The above artists’ nominations also include “Best Local Act” for each of their respective home countries.

The “2021 MTV EMAs” will take place at the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna in Hungary, and broadcast live on MTV channels in 180 countries and will air locally on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322, GOtv Channel 72) on Sunday November 14 at 20:00 WAT (Pre-Show) and 21:00 WAT (Main Show).

Wizkid spills the beans on Chris Brown & Rihanna Collabs! Watch his Capital XTRA Interview

Ok! So it appears that Wizkid is on track to become a major international star! In a recent interview with DJ Abrantee on Capital XTRA, Wiz spilled the beans on his collaborations with international stars Chris Brown and Rihanna. He confirmed that his single with Chris Brown “African Bad Girl” will be the first single from his next album while in Rihanna’s case, he worked on music for her with production team Stargate though it is yet to be confirmed if it will see the light of day.

Wizkid also speaks on his Davido twitter drama.

WIZKID BAGS BET BEST INTERNATIONAL ACT (AFRICA)

Nigerian pop star Wizkid has added another feather to his cap.

Fresh from an amazing performance at the EME UK tour, which was rated world class, the best selling artist was announced winner of the Best International Act (Africa) at the BET awards in New York on Sunday July 1, 2012 beating heavy weights Camp Mulla (Kenya), Ice Prince (Nigeria), Lira (South Africa) and Mokobe (Mali) .

Wizzy and Sarkodie from Ghana came out tops and received a joint award prize in the same category.

"I feel blessed and I am thankful to God for making all of this happens. Thank God for my EME fam, it's a blessing to be part of an amazing team. Everyone I've worked with, everyone who has supported me in one way or the other, God bless you. To my fans who keep me going, thanks for the love. Thanks to my family for believing in me and letting me live my dreams. Special thanks to everyone at BET. I'm truly honored", Wizkid says.

The event was held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Since the release of his debut album ‘Superstar’ (2011) Wizkid has had a fantastic run; winning a MOBO Award, signing up with Akon’s Konvict Music and touring Nigeria and the UK. The long anticipated EME US tour begins on American Independence day, Wednesday, July 4 and ends on Sunday September 2, 2012.

According to the label heads, the tour will cover nine states in North America including New York, Chicago, Texas, and Atlanta.

Banky W, Wizkid, Skales, Rotimi, XO and other EME stars will also touchdown in the Canadian cities of Toronto and Halifax.

Meanwhile, Banky W has also been announced as an Olympic torch bearer to herald the forthcoming Olympic Games in London alongside some other outstanding Nigerian celebrities: Kanu Nwankwo, Funke Akindele and Steve “Yaw” Onu. The ceremony will take place at Coventry on July 1, 2012.

Banky’s protégé and label mate, Wizkid, has also been having a superlative year. Not only has he scored an exclusive one year endorsement deal with popular drinks giant, Pepsi, he is also a nominee in this year’s BET Awards (Best African Act) which will hold at the Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles USA.
