Rapper, Okyeame Kwame on Wednesday evening spoke candidly to Yaw Sakyi, the host of The Rundown on TV Africa, on how he felt about last weekend’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. When asked if he was satisfied with winning a total of 3 awards, he said he expected more. He particularly wanted to win the Best Video of the Year nod because he felt it was strong, relevant and very different from the rest.
The rapper said he didn’t want to take anything away from the winner, ‘African Woman’ by Becca but hinted that he was just being selfish and ‘political’. He said one of favourite highlights from the award ceremony was seeing Funny Face push Chris Attoh to speak fluent Twi.
He also commented on the performance of Angolan guest artist, Cabo Snoop. Okyeame said he was happy that Cabo Snoop came to ‘fool around’ on stage so that Ghanaians would appreciate the musical talent that abounds in Ghana. He described the Angolan as a DJ who just got on a dance beat that people liked.
Okyeame Kwame’s song, ‘Faithful’ featuring Bertha won the VGMA for Best Collaboration and Best Songwriter, and his campaign on Hepatitis B won him the award for Music for Development.
