Kora Awards Is Fraud!

Patrons of the KORA Awards have been thrown into total uncertainty when they realized that everything is not well with the erstwhile beloved African equivalent of the Grammys-THE KORA.
Headlines screamed in Nigeria over the weekend about the appalling nature of the awards after a series of investigations regarding the recklessness or bankruptcy of the KORA event organizers and stakeholders.
In Ghana, a number of artistes have won Kora awards- KojoAntwi, VIP and Shasha Marley. Nevertheless, until Shasha Marley won it some two years ago, everything seemed to be calm. However, hell broke loose when Blakk Rasta questioned how come that year, April,2010 two reggae artistes (Shasha Marley of Ghana and King Wadada, Nigeria) won the same award for Reggae Act Of The Year.
Both artistes were so embarrassed of the situation they refused to mention that there were two winners. They both claimed they each was the right winner.
Two years down the line, the two artistes are yet to get the $20,000 prize money they were promised even after several calls to the organizers demanding their prize. The biggest winner for that year was P-square from Nigeria who themselves are still wallowing in the arena of absolute desperation about their unfulfilled award money promise by KORA.
“I paid my own plane fare from Nigeria to Burkina Faso for the KORA awards just as Shasha Marley. The event organizers gave us nothing. We paid our own air fares and others. They are fraud!”
Speaking from his base in Lagos, Nigeria on TAXI DRIVER in the BOILING POT, King Wadada bemoaned the situation and referred to the organizers are bogus and fraudulent. Shasha refused to talk on the issue obviously embarrassed at the turn of events.
It could be recalled that Shasha Marley made a lot of noise in the Ghanaian media after receiving the Kora Award in April, 2010 amidst a lot of controversy. As it stands now, two years after defrauding artistes, will the organizers of the KORA awards be man enough to show their real faces as their official website keeps going offline as frequently as the traffic lights change. They obviously are not being able to pay to keep their website online regularly let alone pay the fares of nominees to attend the ceremony.
Several calls to the personal assistant of the CEO of the KORA awards, Victoria Okong went unanswered. When it was finally answered a female voice said, “NO COMMENT FOR NOW.’

R2Bee’s ‘Agyeii’ disqualified from Ghana Music Awards

The much awaited Ghana Music Awards 2012 nominations are out and a decision taken by the VGMA Board is already raising questions as to whether indeed they took the right decision for the right reasons. Public Relations Officer Mrs. Juno Abena Ehigie-Dadson, revealed on Peace FM’s “Entertainment Review” that the VGMA Board has decided to disqualify one of the most popular songs at the moment, R2Bees’ single “Agyeii” which features Sarkodie and Nana Boroo.

According to Juno, the Board disqualified the song based on the fact that it contains sexually explicit lyrics. “This year, only one song was disqualified by the VGMA Board which is the R2Bees’ “Agyeii”.

Asked to explain further why, among all the songs listed, only “Agyeii” was taken out, Juno said “We took it out as a song that contains sexually explicit lyrics and violence”.

Host of the programme, Kwasi Aboagye, asked why “Agyeii” has been disqualified but “Yenko nkoa” by Eduwodzi which contains similar lyrics, was considered ok, Juno said that issue came up concerning lines in the song which were sung in “Ewe” but after speaking to over seven different individuals, Ewe linguists and ordinary Ewe natives, a majority of them believed that the Ewe lines in the song were sexually suggestive but not sexually explicit. So Eduwodzi’s “Yenko nkoa” which features Stay Jay was passed, with the majority of the board members agreeing to it.

Questioned as to why “Agyeii” as a song has been disqualified whereas R2Bees as artistes have been nominated in the “Artiste of the year” category which is the topmost award among other categories, for the same song which has been disqualified, Nii Aryetey Hammond of Charter House responded that

“They are not being awarded for the song but they are being awarded as artistes. It is not based on the song that they are being awarded but the song gave them the chance to enter the categorization. That song has been dropped but as artistes they don’t perform only one song when they are on stage”.

Meanwhile Peacefmonline.com investigations reveal that other songs like “The thing” by Atumpan featuring Bradez, “Wope dodo” by Yaw Siki, “Last One by Tiffany featuring Castro, “Shahee wowo” by Stay Jay, “Sokode” by Keche were all listed by the board as songs which may possibly contain suggestive words, but after all the deliberations only “Agyeii” was disqualified.

R2Bees were nominated for “Artistes of the year”, “Group of the year”, and “Hiplife/Hip hop artistes of the year” in this year VGMAs.

Adele wows with post-throat surgery song

(Reuters) - Adele wowed fans on Friday in her first public singing outing since throat surgery in November, putting to rest fears that her distinctive husky voice may have been damaged.

The soulful British singer, 23, is due to make her official performance comeback at the Grammy Awards on Sunday where she is expected to take home an armful of trophies following the worldwide success of her album "21".

But on Friday, American TV viewers heard her sing three verses, a cappella, of her hit song "Rolling In The Deep" in an excerpt of an upcoming "60 Minutes" interview on CBS.

"Thank the music gods that she sounds just as perfect as she did before that hemorrhaged vocal chord," wrote Jarett Wieselman at celebrity website TheInsider,

HollywoodLife.com said Adele "sounds amazing," while E! Online's Alexis L. Loinaz wrote, "The gal kills it! If there are any lingering doubts that Adele might not be ready to unleash those pipes yet, this footage puts them to rest."

Adele was forced to cancel part of her U.S. tour last year because of persistent vocal problems. In November, she underwent laser surgery to remove a hemorrhaged polyp on her vocal cords and was ordered to take two months of vocal rest.

Organizers confirmed only 10 days ago that she would be performing at the Grammy Awards show in Los Angeles on Sunday, where she has six nominations, including the coveted record, album and song of the year.

The full "60 Minutes" profile will be shown immediately before the Grammy telecast. Adele told interviewer Anderson Cooper that she first realized there was something wrong with her voice when she was singing live on a French radio station and, "It felt like something popped in my throat."

She said the surgery was a wake-up call to help her realize her vocal limits.
